ALL THAT GLITTERS
Sparkle those stilettos, twinkle your trousers and jazz up that jacket in preparation for a glittering Winter. By Sacha Musgrove.
From glam rock David Bowie’s glistening wardrobe in the 70’s, to the more recent decades’ sparkle-hype around Christmas and New Year, it’s about time that glitter entered the fashion world as a must-have. And it definitely has.
Fashionista’s are going wild for glittery garments. Moschino took the androgynous route with silver, glistening suits as part of their A/W11 womenswear collection. They also brought to light a cheap and chic tinsel dress, perfect for that upcoming Christmas party while Alexander Wang designed a stunning pair of pink, glitter trousers which were teamed up on the catwalk with a black, fur coat.
Nicole Scherzinger was recently spotted at LA Fashion’s Night Out, wearing a sparkling, gold suit by Oscar De La Renta. She joins a growing list of celebs sporting the glitter trend, from the likes of Alexa Chung and Kate Moss to the X-Factor judges Kelly Rowland and Tulisa.
Miu Miu’s A/W11 suede/glitter combo boots have the fashion world reeling. Take your pick from gold, silver, pink, yellow and more. You name it, they’ve done it. Shoe designer Jeffrey Campbell has also designed some highly sought after glittery ‘Lita’ platform boots with inspiringly high, wooden heels.
On the high street, Topshop have an array of glitter star tees and shimmering shorts in gold or merely just sparkling denim, proving that glitter isn’t just for eveningwear. They have also added a touch of glitz to their feathered jewellery. Accessories are twinkling at Asos too, with star pendants, earrings and rings. Anya Hindmarch has glammed up a basic style clutch, which comes in gold, grey, pewter and black.
If you want to keep it low key, note Kate Moss’s effortless glam as she teams an oversized gold tunic with some leggings and a clutch. For a flicker of sparkle try adding glitter to your nails, as seen recently on Alexa Chung. Or try out MAC’s glittering eye-shadow which wowed on the Ashish catwalk at London Fashion week this year and is now available in most colours.
New US company (Jessie J’s favourite) Violent Lips have introduced what appears to be the next big thing - the glitter lip tattoo. Available in a shimmering array of colours and styles, you can see that the lips speak for themselves.
It’s always this time of the year that glitter dazzles its way into our wardrobe so we suggest you take full advantage.
Louis Vuitton S/S12 catwalk report, written in the style of Vogue...
Once again, Kate Moss wows for LV.
A welcoming, white wonderland opened up a world of magical designs in a glistening fairytale at Louis Vuitton.
A pure white fabric cylinder rose high at the Louis Vuitton catwalk show to reveal a theatrical, snow-white carousel. Doll-like models with pale rose lips and lashings of mascara gracefully side saddled white horses, while gold fairy lights shone above them. Each had their hair tied back, some sporting glittering diamante and pearl tiaras. Enchanting music sent twinkling sounds as one by one each model daintily stepped down onto the glossy catwalk that circled the carousel.
Alexa Chung sat front row wearing a Peter Pan collar and puff sleeve dress, accompanied by other celebrity guests including Nicole Richie, Abbie Cornish, Uma Thurman and Rachel Zoe.
The summer daywear expressed femininity with delicate silks, soft makeup and chiffon layered skirts. Dainty court shoes with patent straps had three buttons on one side, some featuring metallic points. Models were accessorized with white, Louis Vuitton monogram umbrellas, placed delicately against one shoulder. Reminiscent of jelly shoes in the 80s, Vuitton’s stand-out, open weave, silvery, basket bags are sure to be a seasonal hit in spring while small, quilted clutches remained subtle.
As the spectacular show came to a magical end, supermodel Kate Moss closed the show with an elegant twirl before delicately sauntering around the fairground style runway. Dressed in a white, floral, ostrich feathered dress with her hair pinned back in a loose bun and held perfectly in place with a thin, gold Alice band, Moss seemed more than happy to be a part of the delightful show for close friend and creative director Marc Jacobs.
To finish, Jacobs (dressed all in white) walked around the carousel to a rapturous applause. Beautifully intricate and hinting fragility, the collection seemed miles away from his A/W11 dominatrix style designs yet it was undoubtedly just as mesmerising. The question on everyone’s lips is will he or won’t he move to Dior? It is clear from this stunning show that Jacobs could cut it in the Dior world but could Phoebe Philo cut it for LV? Hopes and rumours are circulating that he will remain at Louis Vuitton and after that beautiful show, we hope so too.
Sooo, on Tuesday I went to see Wolf Gang @ Koko in Camden Townnn. If you don't know their music - check it out (The King and All of his Men is probs the best tune to youtube). As usual they were reallllly good. About half way through the gig, I made a quick drinks trip and to my absolute amazement, bumped into Alexa Chung en route. Yes, it was fab.
Thanks to my lovely Uncle & Auntie I'm getting a pair of these Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots. YES. I'm just undecided on which colour to go for? I'm definitely thinking glitter - just because. But I do like the striped ones, although I'm not entirely sure I could pull them off. Hmmm... Assistance please.
